Holding Space Consultations

An Oasis for Those in Grief, Loss, or Transition

The irony is that we attempt to disown our difficult stories to appear more whole or more acceptable.  But our wholeness -- even our wholeheartedness -- actually depends on the integration of ALL of our experiences.  Including the falls.

The term "Holding Space" is defined in Amy Wright Glenn's book Holding Space - On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go as the practice of showing up with a compassionate presence to life as it arises, especially when it arises with difficulty and loss.  You may find this book to be a gentle companion to you during this time.

Anne has trained with Amy, founder of the Institute For The Study of Birth, Breath, and Death and offers Holding Space Consultations based upon the methods of working with grief, difficulty, and life transitions that represent the heart of the Institute's work in our world.

• Are you in the middle of a significant life change?

• Are you feeling scared, lost, disconnected, or overwhelmed?

• Have you experienced recent loss/grief?

The Six Needs of The Mourner:

In his work on grief and loss, Dr. Alan Wolfelt identifies the six needs that we have as we navigate and mourn our grief.

• To acknowledge the reality of the loss experienced

• To feel the pain of this sorrow

• To remember the person/situation/events that are being missed

• To develop a new identity as the pain is, over time, reconciled or integrated

• To search for meaning and find one's own understanding of what happened and why

• To receive ongoing support through the grief journey of storytelling, emotional expression, and meaning making

Testimonials:

I had no idea what a holding space session was all about. I entered my sessions open-minded.  Anne is so welcoming!  She's a happy ball of light.  Our 60-minute sessions were great!  I highly recommend Anne and her holding space sessions.  My sessions were all related to childbirth.  Really, these sessions could apply to anything in life.  I was left feeling empowered and with confidence that I had everything I need right here within myself.  Anne helped me to recognize fears or pains that might show up and sit with them and acknowledge them.  The visualizations that we did together really helped, as well.  I will carry these sessions with me into my experience and journey through childbirth and beyond.  Anne makes you feel safe and carefully listened to.  I love Anne and her holding space sessions.  They were so helpful.  Thank you, Anne!

I truly appreciate the holding space sessions that I have been taking with Anne. It took her no time at all to guide me in the right direction and to learn more about myself.  A few of the positives that have come out of our sessions: I value myself more, and I have a deeper acceptance of myself and others. I’m stepping back, not taking on other people's issues like I used to.  In other words, creating healthier boundaries, inner peace, and happy tears instead of going into fear mode.  I'm feeling stronger, listening to my own needs, and experiencing more ease and pleasure. Trusting myself more is a big win for me.

After having had Whipple surgery for a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour in August, 22, I have found knowledge to be empowering and often listen to different podcasts. I had been listening to a docuseries about healing and dealing with trauma and I was fortunate to listen to Anne's segment. I immediately identified with her pathway and reached out to find out more about her Holding Space sessions. Anne replied quickly and we set up some sessions. It’s amazing how technology can connect us nowadays and that I can be sitting on my Tuesday morning in Australia talking to Anne on her Monday evening in the States.  Anne’s sessions have helped me tremendously. She is so gentle and supportive and I immediately felt it was a safe and special time. She helped me connect dots in my life story and I had a few ‘aha’ moments. I finished my sessions feeling like my fear and anxiety had taken a back seat to empowerment and strength. I felt myself looking forward to our next session.  Anne is a wonderful example of developing a mindset from surviving to thriving and I would recommend her to anyone who is feeling overwhelmed and lost in their journey.

It was more than 1 year when I first reached out to Anne.  She was recommended by a dear friend.  And I appreciate the patience and warm connecting support over many emails trying to fit her into my very busy schedule.  By the initial consultation I knew I could trust her with the Holding Space Process.  And the sacred space ritual built up further trust through her careful confident words of empathy and caring skills which is clearly evident in every session. It took a while to answer the 1st session's pre-work questions.  This led to the clarity of my healing intentions.  And Anne kept the sacred space of leading me to trust closing my eyes, which led to the gift of trusting and releasing my story.  Anne restated my intentions.  She was warmly patiently, supporting the sacred space for me to feel my felt senses.  So that I could feel my vulnerable sacred experience of letting go through the safe space to mourn the past in the present moment.  (softening releasing tension through uncomfortable cries which turns into joys of release and relief).  Each of the 4 sessions builds further trust.  I'm confident I’ll sign up again to discern and imagine my new exciting chapter of my future!
